Founded in 1101, Fontevraud was one of the largest monastic complexes in the Western world. Eleanor of Aquitaine and the Plantagenets are buried there. Nine centuries of history and of architecture are to be seen here, including the majestic domes of the abbey church and the amazing voluminous spaces of its famous kitchens. The abbey today houses an arts centre (concerts, master classes, exhibitions, conferences, artists' residences...)
